GreenComp is the European Union’s reference framework for sustainability competences. It aims to equip learners of all ages with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to live, work, and act sustainably. It’s designed for use across formal, non-formal, and informal learning settings, supporting lifelong learning initiatives.
GreenComp is organized into four interrelated competence areas, each comprising three competences:

These competences are interconnected and equally important, fostering a holistic approach to sustainability education.

GreenComp serves as a non-prescriptive reference, providing a common ground for learners and guidance for educators. It supports the development of a sustainability mindset, encouraging individuals to think, plan, and act with empathy, responsibility, and care for our planet. The framework is adaptable across various educational contexts and levels.
Educators can integrate GreenComp into curricula through interdisciplinary approaches, project-based learning, and real-world problem-solving activities. This fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and active citizenship among students. For instance, incorporating case studies on environmental issues can help students apply these competences practically.
