This lesson introduces basic notions of geovisualization.
The term was first introduced by the cartographer Alan M. MacEachren in 2004 who claimed that the use of “dynamic visual displays as prompts for scientific insight and on the methods through which dynamic visual displays might leverage perceptual cognitive processes to facilitate scientific thinking”. ( A. M. MacEachren et al., “Geovisualization for knowledge construction and decision support,” in IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, vol. 24, no. 1, pp. 13-17, Jan.-Feb. 2004, doi: 10.1109/MCG.2004.1255801).
A short presentation, Intoduction to Geovisualization is provided in the Course Materials.
Moreover, the article by Çöltekin, A., Janetzko, H., and Fabrikant, S. I. (2018).
